This is one of the biggest questions that is currently being discussed in society at the moment. On the one hand, you have the argument of freedom of expression etc., but then you also have the issue of protecting the younger members of our society from content that could actually prove to be harmful.
Parents wince at the very idea of their child professing to be undertaking research for a vital homework assignment, when, in fact, they may stumble across an unsuitable site attempting to sell blow up dolls. Of course, there are filters and blocks that can be applied to internet accounts, but we still worry about the content of some sites.
So, should the government risk turning our country into even more of a Nanny State? Should more adult sites actually be banned?
Most people would probably argue to the contrary here. After all, this is the 21st century and people really ought to have the right to choose the type of content they view. However, where sites become too explicit, and especially where illegal content may be involved, it is imperative that the police monitor the internet regularly for such material.
The internet is definitely proving to be a controversial subject lately. Many government agencies are already pondering over the issue of more extensive intervention, but for the most part, it would seem that they have been very reluctant to go too far.
